Prosecutor has been charged with aggravated bribery against a former employee of the City of Salo. The case began on Wednesday in the District Court of Southwest Finland.

According to the public subpoena, the prosecutor is seeking a conviction from the man for gross bribery or, in the alternative, for a bribery offense. The prosecutor demands that the man be sentenced to forfeit a total of just over 30,000 euros worth of gifts received by the state.

According to the prosecutor the man ordered products for the city of Salo from companies from which he received gifts and gift cards. According to the prosecutor, the man ordered products for the city of Salo with a total of 43 orders and EUR 142,585 (VAT 0%) in 2010–2019.

The man accepted and received subscriber gifts related to the orders totaling at least 31,305.30 euros, the prosecutor considers. According to the summons, the goods have included, for example, a telephone and a tablet computer. The values ​​of the gift cards, on the other hand, varied from hundreds of euros to more than a thousand euros.

The city of Salo says in a statement that the criminal case came to light during a special inspection of the bankrupt company during the fall of 2019, and the employment of the now accused person was terminated at that time.

The city says it suspects that bribery has led to a significant overpricing of goods.

The case before the district court is part of a larger whole. The same two companies, Global Group Finland Oy and Pro Teollisuustarvike Oy, have also emerged in other lawsuits.
