Kristina Krajetska is panicking. Her goddaughter is in the ward of the hospital’s neurology department. If the hospital were to be fired, they could not escape anywhere.
“I’m so worried. I’ve been here for a month and we’re stuck here. I don’t know what will happen. We can’t move anywhere because of his condition. ”
Photographer Niklas Meltio photographed hospital patients and their relatives on Tuesday. He reported his findings to HS by telephone.
According to Meltio, the neurological department has difficult long-term cases. They are in constant need of treatment, so their evacuation is not just about that.
Meltio says a bullet struck through a hospital window the night between Sunday and Monday. There was a shooting in the neighborhood that night, and it was apparently a misstep.
A bomb shelter has been set up under the hospital to house premature babies and their mothers. Meltio’s pictures also show older children, whole families.
There are no hospital beds for everyone, but families are lying on a dirty lot with anyone anywhere.
The people of Kiev Hoard now, according to Meltion, four things: cash, food, gasoline, and medicine.
In the mornings, long queues gather in front of grocery stores and pharmacies. According to Meltio, the situation is similar in different parts of the city.
Grocery stores are running out of goods. One picture shows the empty bread department in the store.
“Pretty hysterically, people collect any kind of stuff,” Meltio says.
In the process regional defense forces are trying to build roadblocks to secure Kiev. People fill sandbags along the street with soil.
Tuesday was the first warm day in a while, according to Meltio, and the ground could be dug with a shovel.
The Regional Defense Forces are made up of volunteer civilians who register with the state and thereby obtain their weapons.
According to Meltio, the atmosphere in the troops had recharged. President of Russia Vladimir Putinia slandered and sniffed without sparing words.
“Meininki is the way to get here.”
