HS Helsinki Ville Haapasalo’s Soviet restaurant suddenly closed its doors

Opened in October, Davai Davai serves dishes from the former Soviet republics.

Actor and an entrepreneur Ville Haapasalon Davai Davai Restaurant has closed its doors so far. The restaurant at Pohjoisesplanadi 17 opened last October.

Haapasalo is one of the owners of the restaurant, but the main shareholder is Noho Partners.

Haapasalo says that the Russian invasion of Ukraine took away the bottom of the restaurant’s idea. Davai Davai offered dishes from the former Soviet Union, which is not a selling point right now.

“The reason for the closure was the world political situation. The theme of the restaurant was awkward during this time, ”says Haapasalo.

Soviet nostalgia was also offered in the interior of the restaurant. Among other things, the walls had posters from the Soviet era.

However, according to Haapasalo, the story of the restaurant is not over.

“I am currently developing a new concept for the space. The restaurant will probably reopen in early autumn. We will be back even better. ”

Previously on the restaurant’s Facebook page was toldthat the restaurant has retreated for the summer holidays.

“Surprise, surprise – you never believe that. Because the summer is way too short, we decided to extend it a bit on our own. We hit the holiday pastures and return as the autumn rains begin to rain on the Esplanade. By following us, you will find your way when our return begins to loom! ” page was written.

The restaurant has also said on Facebook that it is helping Ukrainian children financially.

HS estimates Davai davai restaurant in March. The restaurant critic gave the Soviet food two starsbecause unfortunate children happened to be in the kitchen.

Ville Haapasalo is known in Finland as an expert in Russia.
