The police The wolf, which was killed in Helsinki on Tuesday, has now been examined at the Finnish Food Agency’s Oulu office.

The wolf moved at least in Pitäjänmäki, Valimo, Pajamäki and Pirkkola before it got under the car at Pakila’s Teboil.

Veterinarian, specialist researcher Minna Nylund says the wolf was a young male who weighed 38 pounds.

The wolf was sent from the Finnish Food Agency’s Viikki office to Oulu by freight taxi. If it had weighed no more than 35 kilos, it would have been sent to Oulu as a Matkahuolto package by bus.

The wolf had been in good condition before his injury.

“The wolf was in good muscle condition and had normal fat reserves as well. It had no signs of any disease other than the crash, ”says Nylund.

Wolf there were bleeding in the left thigh and fractures and bleeding in the pelvis. There was also a recent injury and bleeding in the cervical spine. There was a small fracture in the wolf’s cervical spine. There was a gunshot wound to the head.

Police stopped shooting a wolf injured in a car accident.

“The wolf was gracious to stop because its injuries were severe. The wolf’s pelvis had broken so badly that it could not have moved at least very far. By no means would it have survived, at least not alone, without the help of the herd, ”Nylund says.

Could the wolf have been rescued by surgery?

“Of course, anything may be possible, but it would have been a big and difficult cut. Healing would have taken a long time. Surely the wolf would also have had a terrible fear that it would be surrounded by humans and would not have a chance to escape. ”

The wolf is still being studied for rabies, cervids and trichinella.

“I always feel sad when this happens to a healthy wildlife. This job hasn’t made me so hardened,” Nylund says.

Particularly it feels bad for Nylund to end up on his desk looking for wildlife that has been intentionally harmed by man. This happens a few times a year. Hedgehogs in particular may have been kicked or shot with arrows.

“Hedgehogs are prone to torture because they are so slow and go ball-defense in their defense. Not all cases come before us. ”

If you find a dead wild animal whose cause of death is unclear, you should contact the Food Agency.

For example, finding several birds dead can be a sign of bird flu. Such findings must be reported to the municipal veterinarian or the county veterinarian of the regional government agency.

Food Agency pages are formwith which the findings of dead wild animals can be reported.

“We monitor it all the time and get in touch if you need to find out. We will also find out how to get the animal examined. Transport assistance can also be requested from local game management associations. ”

Contaminated carcasses eaten by animals should not be sent for examination unless there are specific reasons, such as a suspicion of a crime.

From the Food Agency’s website receive information on shipping instructions and any diseases that may be present in wildlife.
