HS Helsinki The car crashed into an iconic bell on Ludviginkatu: “I wonder what’s raging here”

The heavy vehicle accidentally crashed into the clock of the characteristic Päivälehti Museum on Ludviginkatu on Thursday morning.

Ludviginkadun walkers can no longer see the time from the distinctive clock hung in front of the Päivälehti Museum.

“When I came to work in the morning, the place of the clock was surrounded by insulating tape and the clock was lying on the ground like shingles,” describes the museum’s service coordinator. Aikku Meura waiting for the show on Thursday morning.

“I was wondering what’s been raging here.”

This sight began Aikku Meura’s Thursday working day at the Päivälehti Museum.

Surveillance camera recordings showed that the heavy vehicle had driven too close to the wall in the morning and accidentally shook the clock.

Present has been the “office clock” of the former Helsingin Sanomat office in the 1930s. Now, however, a modern copy of the watch broke.

The original watch is safe at Sanomatalo Mediator. It was brought to its current location in a high lobby at the turn of the millennium After the delivery of Helsingin Sanomat changed to the house.

The original clock on Ludviginkatu moved with Sanomat to Sanomatalo at the turn of the century.

“Even today Stockan clock is known as an icon, so this watch has its own history as well, ”knows Meura.

There was a loud commotion around a circular mechanical device known as an office clock half a century ago. Although Ludviginkatu is short, all the factors needed to publish the newspaper were found along it: the editorial office, Lehtipaino and latomo.

The clock played an important role, as journalists, printers and barns had to be aware of the hours and minutes in order to get the latest news of the day to the people of Helsinki on time.

The Päivälehti Museum is part of the Sanoma Group, to which Helsingin Sanomat belongs. Daily was a newspaper published in Helsinki between 1889 and 1904, after which it became the current one Helsingin sanomat newspaper.
