HS Helsinki Axa Sorjanen realized her inventive way to support Ukraine by skiing: “This way I can raise a much larger amount than I could donate by bank transfer alone”

“Hopefully this will encourage others to think of different ways to participate to help,” says Axa Sorjanen, who supports Ukraine while skiing.

“Ski support for Ukraine”wrote the journalist and non-fiction writer Axa Sorjanen Facebook this weekend.

Sorjanen is known as an avid ski enthusiast who has also organized ski lessons.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is haunting many, and people have a desire to help. Sorjanen wanted to show by his own example that there are many ways to help in this situation. Helping can be connected to something you like or part of.

“Helping doesn’t always have to be crocheting a blanket. Namely, no one would use the quilt I crocheted, ”says Sorjanen.

But he knows how to ski, and he’s asked a lot to teach the sport. That is why Sorjanen decided to combine her beloved kind and helping.

Sorjanen will provide skiing lessons in March according to their schedules and by prior reservation to those who participated in the Unicef or SPR Ukraine fundraisers.

“I realized that I could thus collect a much larger amount than I could donate by bank transfer alone,” says Sorjanen.

“Hopefully this will encourage others to think of different ways to get involved to help.”

Axa Sorjanen decided to book ski lessons in advance for those who participated in the Unicef or SPR Ukraine fundraisers.

He organizes ski lessons in Paloheinä, Helsinki.

“Several hours have already been agreed and there have been a lot of inquiries. At least one choir is participating. ”

Sorjanen does not want the ski school children to have money in their own account, but wants to see a receipt from the participants for the donation.
