The lack of space next to the wall of the Aurinkolahti beach has made people sit on a wheelchair mat.
A resident of Vuosaari Ursula Nakai was confused when he visited the beach at Aurinkolahti on Sunday. A wheelchair mat had been placed in a bad location in front of the ramp leading to the sand next to Cafe Biits.
According to Nakai, people tend to sit on the sand in front of the wall and lean on it. The wheelchair mat starting at the bottom of the ramp is at popular seating, and people have ended up sitting on the mat.
“I was visiting the beach and watching to see if it had been funny while people were sitting on the carpet,” Nakai says.
Nakai thought the carpet could move the ramp to the left. This would not impede the passage of wheelchair users and allow those on the beach to lean more freely on the wall.
The wheelchair mat starting at the bottom of the ramp takes you to the showers and changing rooms. Aurinkolahti’s beach has a swim chair that allows wheelchair users to reach the water.
Helsinki a team member in charge of the city’s beaches Jukka Lundgren no accusations have been made of the beach’s wheelchair mat on the ears.
“I have to say that people are pretty small with problems. I could imagine that when a wheelchair user comes to the carpet, it must be time to be upset, if not then move on, ”Lundgren says.
The wheelchair mat has been in its current location since last summer.
“There are about 300 meters of walls on the beach, so you can find sleeping places elsewhere. However, we are checking the situation and moving the carpet to the other side of the ramp is not an impossible task, ”says Lundgren.
If it is decided to move the wheelchair mat, Lundgren estimates that the work may take a few hours or even several days. It is therefore entirely possible that the carpet may be moved this summer.
“There’s usually a lot of work going on in the early summer, and that’s not exactly the kind of thing that’s our priority. Of course, we’re trying to get things done so people can talk. ”
