HS Environment An empty tent assembled by Peik Joutsenen from Vihtilä attracted surprising guests – “I am absolutely enchanted”

Vihtiläinen firefighter Peik Joutsen there was no faith in his eyes when his e-mail began to take photos of two lynxes in front of the tent taken by a game camera in a seven-week-old Sunday night in seven countries.

The swan had installed the camera in the woods behind his house. The place is located two kilometers from the center of Nummela.

“The game camera emails the images in near real time, and in a couple of hours I got seven images showing one or two lynxes. They spun in front of the tent, seemed to wonder about it, left and came back later, ”says Joutsen.

Swan hiked and set up a tent 150 meters from his house to test his new camping gear. He tied a game camera around the trunk of a pine tree in front of the tent because he wanted to know if the roe deer were sniffing the tent while he was staying there.

The swan’s camera captures wild deer, a fox a couple of times a week and a raccoon about once a week. The camera has also photographed the tails of birds, as birds tend to sit on the lens of a swan camera.

The swan slept in the tent for a couple of nights, but during that time, according to the camera, no animals visited the site. The lynxes appeared in the pictures only after the firefighter had left the scene.

“Fortunately, I didn’t have time to dismantle the tent and remove the camera before Sunday night’s shift. I am absolutely fascinated by these lynx pictures. I couldn’t even imagine lynx moving around my corner, ”says Joutsen.

Peik Joutsen thinks that the mother and the chick were walking in front of the tent. According to Peikki, the height of the bigger lynx was 50-60 cents. The smaller one had chick-like features, such as large paws relative to the body.

“There was no food in the tent, not a crumb, so I think they were just curious.”
