In the Conservatives’ presidential race, it is expected that there will be an increase in swearing. Out of the 11 candidates, the two most popular ones are to be chosen before the parliament’s summer break, which starts at the end of July, writes HS’s foreign correspondent Ilmo Ilkka.

Acting Prime Minister Boris Johnson is most likely trying to leave a bowl of poison to the chagrin of his followers. Johnson has, among other things, appointed unsuitable MPs to positions of trust at various levels, says one For The Guardian spoke party leader. Johnson has also not announced his support for any successor candidate.

So the first thing the new prime minister has to do is pick up the brush and clean up the appointments made by Johnson before he can start appointing his own supporters. If, or rather when, the new leader removes Johnson’s appointees, there may be resentment and resentment among the sacked MPs.

Multi must have accepted Johnson’s offer knowing they could lose it. Still, being fired from government positions certainly never feels good, which can contribute to further dividing the conservatives.

The backstabbing and sharpening of knives related to the leadership race have already started within the party. In addition to filling political positions with unsuitable people, Johnson has also turned his anger and bitterness on the former finance minister Rishi Sunakia against, The Guardian reports.

In the leadership race both Sunak and the current Minister of Finance Nadhim Zahawi have had to explain their personal taxation and business patterns. Sunak’s wife benefited from legal but dubious non-dom status, which allowed her to avoid paying certain taxes to Britain.

Zahawi’s business, on the other hand, received a warning from the authorities that monitor the bias, affiliations and ethics of British ministers. However, he was not suspected of the crime and Johnson appointed him as Chancellor of the Exchequer. It is still a serious suspicion, which, according to a source who spoke to The Guardian, should have prevented the ministerial appointment.

Probably not it is a coincidence that the information about the warning Zahavi received and the reminders about the status of Sunak’s wife have just now spread to the media and the people. Also, the list of Sunak’s failures circulating in conservative WhatsApp chats file has been laid at a somewhat suspicious time.

On the other hand, Sunak, or the people close to him, let’s tell registered the campaign pages of the presidential race already in December. Around the same time, pictures of illegal parties breaking the corona restrictions, in which Johnson, among others, participated, also began to spread.

The struggle between the conservatives already seems to be dirty, and a cleaner game is not expected.

The party is probably afraid that the struggle between the factions will erode the unity of the party and lower its appeal among the voters. It could bring Labor into government for the first time in more than a decade.

If the distribution of the material is a coincidence, it will come at a very bad time for the top candidates. The 1922 Committee, which runs the competition, will meet on Monday to decide on the schedule for the chairman’s competition. Among other things i magazine on Monday, it will be decided when the official candidate declarations start and end, the number of votes required for the nomination, and the timetable for the voting itself.

Race we will most likely visit a hundred glasses and dictated by a tight schedule, because the parliament will be on summer break on July 21. Before the break, the Conservative MPs are trying to narrow down their candidates to two. The final stamp is given by members of the Conservative Party, who vote on the winning finalist duo.

With these prospects, members will be able to vote at the end of August, and the winner will be announced at the beginning of September, when Parliament returns from recess.

Tax issues have become very much at the center of the competition, as almost every leader candidate has promised tax cuts when they were prime minister. Tax issues, however, have traditionally turned into a tough fight between the prime minister and the finance minister.

This has generally been due to the fact that the resident of 10 Downing Street, i.e. the Prime Minister, has wanted to please the voters, or in this case members of the Conservative Party and MPs, by promising tax cuts and reliefs. However, his neighbor at 11 Downing Street, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, is willing to take a more cautious stance on taxation.

After Johnson’s term and its extraordinary decision, conservatives may have a burning desire to show voters that the party is ready for change. However, this may be a difficult task, as Johnson’s successor should be able to show both his merits and his differences compared to his predecessor.

In this sense, for example, Foreign Minister Truss can be strong, as he has largely stayed out of domestic politics, although his cornerstone is the controversial policy regarding asylum seekers, which has even been stopped by the court. However, Truss can appeal to Britain’s strong Ukraine policy and the fact that he is not a stooge like Johnson. Of course, Truss also has an elite education to carry, which he acquired from the expensive Oxford University.

of London in buses, cafes and restaurants, the general mood of citizens over the weekend seemed to be that the next party leader will once again be a self-interested person who attended private schools and expensive universities. That is, exactly what Johnson is and what he is perceived to be.

“They don’t live in the real world, in our world,” one London pub owner declared from behind his counter on Sunday.

“How about them [poliitikoihin] can be trusted if they force citizens to pay for their wallpaper and duck ponds,” the pub host’s friend mused.

The statements partly crystallize the dividing lines that exist and are getting stronger in Britain. There are deep gaps visible at least between social classes, Brexit voters, residents of different countries of Britain and large cities and smaller population centers.

Therefore, narrowing the gap between the people and political decision-makers should also be added to the new prime minister’s to-do list. Because, how can society be managed if the governed do not believe in their leaders and the leaders do not care about their governed?
