Washington.- The non-profit organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) denounced this Wednesday the deportation by the United States of more than 20,000 Haitians back to his country in 2021, despite the fact that it is in a “chaotic” situation.
In a report released Thursday, The humanitarian organization asked the USA and the rest of the countries that expel Haitians to stop this practice.as deportees in Haiti face a high risk of violence and lack effective access to protection or justice.
“Haiti is suffering alarming levels of homicides and kidnappings by gangs that control strategic areas of the country, in a situation that is aggravated by persistent impunity in relation to human rights violations and crime, in a context of humanitarian crisis,” indicated from HRW.

According to data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), from January 1, 2021 to February 26, 2022, 25,765 people were expelled or deported to Haiti.
The United States repatriated 79% of them (20,309 people); while the Bahamas, Cuba, the Turks and Caicos Islands, Mexico and other countries returned to the rest.
Between September 19, 2021 — when IOM began collecting detailed information — and February 14, 2022, the US sent back some 2,300 foreign-born children of Haitian parents, most of them in Chile. .
“It is inconceivable that any government would send people back to Haiti considering the deteriorating security conditions in the country and the consequent heightening of the risks to life and security,” said César Muñoz, senior researcher for the Americas at Human Rights. Watch.

Most of the people returned by the USA had left Haiti years ago, escaping an economic and security situation that was already difficult, and had lived in Chile or Brazil before traveling to the USA, they assured the NGO.
