For years there has always been controversy in football, but it seems that with the arrival of video refereeing the controversy has intensified. And the fact is that, match after match, doubts are always being raised about the reliability of the VAR, a system that is only generating more conflict instead of helping to have a fairer football.
All eyes are on VAR. This technology was introduced to help referees make football fairer, and it seems that what it is doing is dividing spectators and sowing even more doubts. The truth is that it is a very useful tool, which, if used correctly, can be very beneficial. The point is that criteria need to be unified around its use, so that we are all clear about which situations VAR should come into play and when, and what criteria the referees follow when making decisions.
Below, we will show the comparison between the current LaLiga classification, and what it would be if VAR did not exist.

There was plenty of VAR activity throughout the matchday. On Friday, in the opening match of the matchday, the technology disallowed a goal by Stoichkov due to an offside by Carlos Vicente. At El Sadar, a foul was converted into a penalty after a VAR review, as it was determined that Mármol’s hold on Budimir had occurred inside the area. At La Cerámica, the VAR intervened on two occasions: first, by awarding a penalty on Lamine Yamal that Lewandowski failed to convert, and then to disallow a goal by Barry for offside. Finally, in Vallecas, Rayo took a point thanks to Isi’s goal being validated.
