WhatsApp voice messages have consolidated as one of the most popular functions among users. However, conserving these recordings is not always the most convenient. Recently, the goal -owned application incorporated a tool that allows you to send audios that self -destructs after being reproduced for the first time. In Wired in Spanish we explain everything you need to know about this option.
At the end of 2023, WhatsApp enabled the sending of voice messages that can only be heard once. At that time, the platform indicated that this function was ideal “when you want to read your credit card data to a friend or when you are planning a surprise. Now you can also share confidential information through voice messages with greater peace of mind.”
According to the application development equipment, this characteristic is useful for transmitting sensitive data, since all the contents sent by this means They are encrypted from extreme to end by default.
Unlike conventional audios, which can be reproduced several times, shared or even remotely eliminated if it acts quickly, ephemeral messages are designed for a single listening. The official WhatsApp aid section clarifies it: “Once you send a photo, video or voice of voice of unique visualization, you will not be able to see it again.” The recipient will have a period of 14 days to reproduce it; After doing so, the file is automatically removed.
Another important aspect is that “you cannot forward, save, highlight or share photos, voice messages or videos sent or received with the unique visualization option.” Despite these restrictions, WhatsApp warns about possible ways to conserve the content: “Multimedia files and unique visualization voice messages can be restored from backups if, at the time of generating them, the message had not been open.” In addition, in Android devices you can use the integrated screen recorder, or resort to a camera or other external equipment. For this reason, the recommendation is clear: it uses this function only with trusted people.

This modality is available only in WhatsApp mobile versions, both in Chats individual as group. To send a unique reproduction audio, the user must hold the microphone icon to record. While doing it, You must touch the symbol with the number one, which will become green when activated.
Once sent, the unique visualization rules will be applied: it can only be heard once. After reproducing and leaving the chat, a notice will appear with the ‘open’ or similar legend. After this, the message cannot be reproduced again.
WhatsApp is maintained as the most used instant messaging service in the world. More than 2,000 million people use it daily to communicate. Recent updates show the goal intentions of turning their popular application into more than an instant communication interface. The service has begun to explore modes of use that compete directly with solutions such as Zoom, Slack and Google Calendar. Last June, he launched the ‘events’ function, which allows to organize all kinds of meetings through pre -existing groups and communities. Later, he announced the implementation of voice message transcriptions.
The organization has reinforced its proposal with the integration of a series of solutions promoted by artificial intelligence (AI). In past months he launched goal AI, an automated assistant who is able to talk, generate images, deliver information in real time and manage the agenda of subscribers through text applications. WhatsApp also works on the development of a new feature that will allow users to create avatars of themselves with AI, which can be used as a profile photo, in the states and within the virtual talks.
