Since Elon Musk bought the old Twitter just over two years ago Platforms have emerged that wanted to take away users as a result of discontent and the changes imposed by the tycoon. Mastodon, Bluesky or Threads They then jumped into the fray, but only the last one, owned by Meta, was able to steal some users. Until now.
After Donald Trump’s victory and the complete support that Musk has given to his candidacy, to the point of collaborating with his government, it seems to have been the final straw for many, who blame Musk for having encouraged the comments in favor of Trump by making use of a platform for which he promised total freedom of expression.
Since the elections the number of Bluesky users has grown to 18 million. This alternative to Twitter, emerged from within the company itself when it was still led by its former CEO Jack Dorsey, promises greater naturalness and algorithmic transparency.
However, starting a new network can be like walking into a bar without people. Let’s see a way to migrate most of our possible contacts automatically.
How to migrate your contacts and followers from X (Twitter) to Bluesky
To do this we will use the Sky Follower Bridge extension, which helps us simplify the process.
To do this, we must install it in our browser from your website and follow these steps:
- Open the followers of your account X here either followers
- Start the extension by clicking on its icon after installing it
- Enter your email address or Bluesky username and app password
- Press the Search Bluesky Users button.
- The extension will detect Bluesky users.
- A button will be displayed to view the detected users.
- Once the scan is finished press the button to check the results and then press the button Continue individually or for all contacts.
This process is not perfect, as it depends on people maintaining similar usernames on both platforms. But for many, it can be a good base to start from.
Although tools like Sky Follower Bridge alleviate the change, there are inevitable problems:
- Duplicate identities: The same username does not guarantee that it is the same person.
- Absent users: If your contacts have changed their username or have not moved to Bluesky, the tool will not be able to locate them.
- Missing features: Bluesky does not yet have advanced features that many users consider indispensable in X, such as long threads or better analysis tools.
Bluesky has a lot of potential as a spiritual successor to Twitter. Its design, the open philosophy behind the project, and the growing number of users make it a serious contender.
