Since October 7th, anti-Semitic content on Tiktok has reached new levels of cruelty. Hatred of Jews is also becoming increasingly widespread in schools, as a report from the Anne Frank educational institution shows.
AOn October 7, 2023, Abir El Saghir uploads a video to Tiktok: The influencer distributes homemade sweets on the occasion of the Hamas massacre, the attack on kibbutzim and the Supernova music festival near the border with Gaza, in which 1,200 people were murdered passers-by. 14.4 million people saw the video on an account that spreads not only baking recipes but also anti-Semitic content.
Accounts like El Saghir's are not uncommon on Tiktok, as the report “The TikTok Intifada – October 7th & the consequences online” from the Anne Frank educational institution shows. On the contrary: the Tiktok algorithm promotes terrorist propaganda, misinformation, conspiracy ideologies and hate speech. And all of this on a platform that has 20.9 million active users in Germany and more than a billion users worldwide.
