How much will GTA 6 cost? It’s a question that some are asking with obviously the underlying fear that Take-Two, the game’s publisher and parent company of Rockstar Games, may decide to increase the launch price of its upcoming open-world action game. We know that GTA 6 will be a success, or at least we take it for granted given the results of GTA 5 and GTA Online, so the idea that Take-Two could offer an even higher price than the other games is a possibility. For GTA 6 many would agree to spend a few extra euros, after all. Furthermore, the words of Take-Two’s CEO – Strauss Zelnick – do not reassure on the issue.
Zelnick was recently asked what he thought of the “price dynamics” for the GTA franchise and for the entire portfolio of the company. Zelnick did not want to directly answer the question by clearly mentioning the price of GTA 6, but he presented in general terms the way in which Take-Two defines the price of its products. According to him, the figure is chosen taking into account the “value” of the video game. GTA 6 certainly has great value, we would say.
“Look, there’s more and more content available and we’re really aiming for offer great value at all times” he explained during a press conference. “We are so focused on offering a value greater than what we charge. This is our goal. Whenever we set a price, we want to make sure it is good news for the consumer; that the experience is far superior to the cost. That’s the goal.”
We remember that Take-Two was the first company to increase the price of games in this generation, with NBA 2K21, and that it proposed the port of Red Dead Redemption for €50. Zelnick said the price increase of 10 euros/dollars was the right decision and was accepted by consumers.
Take-Two has already increased the price of GTA, in a way
While we don’t know what the price of GTA 6 will be – and no authorized retailers are taking pre-orders for the game yet – Take-Two recently raised the prices of a portion of GTA. Let’s talk about the subscription GTA Plus whose price increased by 33%going from 6 euros/month to 8 euros/month.
The price increase went into effect just as LA Noire was added to the service; Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption is already in the catalog, as is GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. Rockstar’s Bully is coming to GTA+ later this year.
