The Spanish team won the Orejona in the years 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1966, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2022. The most recent was against Liverpool of England.
The finals lost by Real Madrid
Although you have to travel far into the past to have the history of Madrid’s defeats. This Wembley final will be the 18th that the white team has played in and of the previous 17, they have only lost three.
You have to go back to 1981 to find Madrid’s most recent setback in the European final. On that occasion they lost it against Liverpool at the Parc des Princes in Paris, losing 1-0.
The other lost final goes back much further and it was against Inter Milan, in a match that ended with a 3-1 defeat. It was the last game of Alfredo Di Stefano with the Madrid shirt.
In 1962 it was the first defeat for the white team. Real Madrid had won the first five editions of the European Cup, between 1956 and 1960. But in ’62 the team fell to the authority of Benfica of Portugal, which won 5-1.
