New industrial safety regulation: The emergency horn has finally had its day
Rapid help must also be guaranteed on weekends and at night: the emergency call is manned while the elevator system is in operation – usually 24 hours a day, seven days a week. “And the emergency call also works in the event of a power failure,” says the expert. Immediately after the alarm, the central staff send technicians on the spot. You don’t usually have to wait long: According to Krzemien, the liberation of trapped people should start after half an hour on average.
You have to wait an average of 30 minutes for help in the elevator
What sounds so self-evident was not standardized for a long time: only since January 2021 have all elevators in Germany without exception been equipped with a so-called two-way communication system. This is regulated by the new version of the Industrial Safety Ordinance. Previously, older elevators in particular only had an acoustic emergency horn with which those trapped could draw attention to their predicament.
