The Game Boy it is a console that has entered the hearts of many, either because it was one of the first successful portables, or because it was full of great games and because as you get older it is inevitable to look at the past with melancholy eyes. Decades have now passed since 1989 and many modern gamers were not yet born when what we can consider a true technological icon of the world of portable consoles was released.
So how about playing with a Game Boy that’s so big it can’t be put in your pocket? In reality, it is so large that it would be difficult to even carry it on your back. The brilliant idea, which for some reason did not come to the late man Gunpey Yokoi, is by modder Arnov Sharma, who wanted to celebrate the historic hardware by enlarging it dramatically, and then calling it Game Boy XL. Now, imagine playing with it in the bathroom or on the train…
A giant Game Boy
In any case, the device contains a Raspberry Pi 5 and boasts a custom-made 3D printed case. “As you can see, this is no ordinary handheld console,” Sharma explained. “It’s thick and wide, definitely huge, and it’s a real big goofy thing.”
Knowing that looking at this Game Boy you won’t resist, Sharma has also provided all of them instructions for replicating it.
However, Sharma is not completely satisfied and would like to improve some elements such as the internal weight distribution, the screen and the fact that there is currently no battery indicator. “This project overall was a success; however, there are some issues that need to be resolved for the next iteration.”
We specify, in case you haven’t understood, that it is a perfectly functional Game Boy and that you can use it to play with it.
