The extremist Shiite Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed this Monday (7) two new missile attacks and “several drones” against Tel Aviv and the port of Eilat, stating that they achieved their objectives “successfully”.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said the military operations were launched in support of “the resistance in Gaza and Lebanon and on the occasion of the first anniversary of October 7,” 2023, a reference to the attack by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas. against Israel that killed 1,200 people.
“The first operation targeted two military targets of the Israeli enemy in the occupied Jaffa region [como chamam Tel Aviv] with two missiles, the first of the Palestine2 type, which managed to reach its target, and the second with a Zulfiqar missile […] and the operation successfully reached its targets,” Sarea said in a statement.
“Previously, the Yemeni Armed Forces [como os houthis se autodenominam] launched several drones against targets in the Jaffa and Umm al Rashrash region [como se referem a Eilat]in the south of occupied Palestine [como se referem a Israel]with Jaffa and Sammad4 drones, and several of these drones successfully reached their targets,” he added.
Earlier, Israel Defense Forces Arabic language (IDF) spokesman Avichay Adraee stated that Israeli defenses intercepted a surface-to-surface missile launched from Yemen into the center of the country, where air raid alarms were activated this afternoon.
Alarms also sounded in the city of Tel Aviv and Ben Gurion International Airport, and a flight from Sofia was diverted to land at Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan, according to flight tracking portal Flightradar24.
The Houthi spokesman praised the “heroes of the resistance in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon” and declared that his extremist group “will continue military operations against the Israeli enemy and impose a naval blockade until the aggression ceases, the siege imposed Gaza is lifted and the aggression against Lebanon ends.”
The Houthis belong to the Shiite branch of Islam, the same as the leaders of Iran’s Islamic regime, and have controlled much of central, northern and western Yemen since they took up arms in 2014 against the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
Since November 2023, they have targeted Israeli and Western ships linked to Israel in the Red and Arabian Seas with missiles and drones to harm Israel economically. They also launch missiles into the country, the vast majority of which are intercepted by Israeli defenses.
In response to these actions, Israeli planes twice bombed the Yemeni port of Al Hodeida, used by the Houthis, most recently in late September, killing five people, according to the group.
