Aden (Al-Ittihad)
Yesterday, the US Central Command (Centcom) said that the Houthi group fired an anti-ship ballistic missile in the Red Sea, hitting an oil tanker flying the Panama flag and owned and operated by a Greek company.
Central Command said in a statement that the tanker was coming from Russia and heading to China, explaining that the injury led to a flood of water inside the ship, which led to it losing propulsion and launching a distress call.
She indicated that the ship’s crew was able to restore the ship’s momentum and direct its rudder, noting that it continued its journey on its own without needing any assistance.
In turn, the British Ministry of Defense Maritime Trade Operations Authority announced yesterday that an oil tanker was attacked off the coast of Yemen, but without any casualties.
She explained that the accident occurred 76 nautical miles from the coast of the Yemeni city of Hodeidah in the Red Sea, noting that the ship’s captain informed her that no crew member was injured, and that the tanker was continuing on its way to the next stop.
The Authority renewed its warning to all ships crossing the Red Sea and Indian Ocean of the need to be vigilant and cautious, and to report any suspicious maritime movements or activities.
