Before the explosion in the house in Nizhny Tagil, unknown persons hit gas pipes
Shortly before the explosion in a residential building in Nizhny Tagil, two unknown men in gas service uniforms were allegedly checking equipment in a neighboring building. According to eyewitnesses, literally a few minutes before the explosion, one of the men hit a gas pipe, after which both disappeared.
In addition, according to local residents, the unknown people had been chased out of the neighboring house by the residents before that. No official inspections were planned for August 1, the local gas service clarified. The equipment in the houses was checked about a month ago, and the company did not send any workers to Sibirskaya Street after that.
Police to check information about gas workers who appeared shortly before explosion
Following eyewitness accounts, the Nizhny Tagil police promised to check the information about unknown men who appeared near the house in gas workers’ uniforms.
One of the residents told about a strange inspection a few days before the incident. According to him, while he was at work, some people came to the residents of the house and inspected the gas pipes. “My neighbors told me about it. I was at work at the time, so they didn’t get to me. But they came to some of the residents,” the man shared.
A criminal case was opened under Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Performing work or rendering services that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life and health of consumers) regarding the collapse of two entrances of an apartment building. The head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, took the investigation under his personal control.
People continue to be pulled out from under the rubble
An explosion in a five-story building on Sibirskaya Street in Nizhny Tagil occurred on the morning of August 1. As a result, two entrances of the building collapsed — according to preliminary data, about 15 apartments were completely destroyed. Windows in neighboring houses were blown out by the explosion.
According to updated information, the explosion site was in an apartment on the third floor. Rescuers arrived at the scene. According to the latest information, people remain under the rubble of the building. Five people have already been pulled from under the rubble, including three children, including a three-month-old baby. The victims were taken to the hospital for assistance.

In total, by information EMERCOM of Russia, ten people were injured, including five children. 70 residents were evacuated from the house where the explosion occurred, as well as neighboring houses. A temporary accommodation center in a hotel will be opened for them. About 30 apartments will be prepared for all residents of the house affected by the explosion.
