These establishments received more tourists than ever during the summer months
Hotel establishments in the Region of Murcia registered a total of 129,979 travelers in September, which is the best figure for this month since statistics are available, according to the Hotel Occupancy survey of the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
This number of travelers in regional hotels was 24.1% higher than that corresponding to the same month in 2021 and 7.3% higher than that obtained in September 2019, the year before the pandemic. This increase contrasts with the 0.6% decrease in Spain as a whole compared to 2019 and places the Region of Murcia as the community in which there was a greater relative increase in travelers, ahead of Galicia (+6.3 %); Canary Islands (+6.3%) and the Basque Country (+5.1%).
This trend was also replicated on the Costa Cálida, whose hotels last September computed the best number of travelers on record for this month, 62,115, 8.5% more than in 2019.
The Minister of the Presidency, Tourism, Culture and Sports, Marcos Ortuño, pointed out that “after two difficult years, the regional tourism sector managed to recover and even increase the visitors it lost due to the health crisis” and concluded that “despite the context complicated that we live, all the tourist data that we count are very positive».
As for the average turnover in hotels in the Region of Murcia for each occupied room (ADR), it was 71.27 euros, which represents an increase of 6.9% compared to the same month of 2019. On the other hand, The average daily income per available room (RevPAR) stood this month at 41.48 euros on average in the Region of Murcia, 0.6% more than the same month of 2019.
The three months of the summer of 2022 (July, August and September) exceeded for regional hotels the highest records of travelers in the historical series in all three cases, specifically, 156,717, 165,437 and 129,979 travelers, respectively. It should be noted that in these three months the registrations of foreigners (37,883, 42,458 and 32,403) have already been higher than the levels prior to the pandemic in those months.
