The hotels of the Region registered a total of 363,073 overnight stays during the month of July, which represents an increase of 23.4% in relation to the same month of 2021 (294,192), according to data from the Hotel Occupancy Survey released yesterday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
However, overnight stays in hotel establishments in the Region of Murcia are still slightly below those registered in July 2019, the year before the pandemic, when they reached 367,926.
In this way, of the total of 42,354,532 overnight stays in Spain during the past month, only 1.8% took place in the Region, the fourth autonomy from the tail in relative terms, only ahead of La Rioja, Navarra and Extremadura, and with a percentage identical to that of Castilla-La Mancha. In contrast, Andalusia accounted for 24.4% of overnight stays, ahead of Catalonia (15.5%) and the Valencian Community (13.9%).

Also, last July there were 156,717 travelers in hotels in the Region, 32.3% more than a year ago, of which 118,834 were residents in Spain, while the rest, 37,883, came from abroad. In relation to the same month of 2019, the Region received 21,232 more travelers than in the year prior to the outbreak of the coronavirus.
Regarding the degree of occupancy by places, the Region of Murcia registered 58.3%, below the national average of 69.9%. The Balearic Islands (87.6%) heads the ‘ranking’ of autonomous communities, ahead of the Canary Islands (74.9%), the Basque Country (73.1%) and the Valencian Community (72.5%). At the bottom are Castilla-La Mancha (34.6%), Melilla (38%), Extremadura (40.4%) and La Rioja (45%).
Prices
Regarding prices, data from the National Institute of Statistics show that the annual rate of the Hotel Price Index (HPI) stood at 16.4% in July, which is 7.9 points more than that registered in the same month of 2021. By autonomous communities, the highest increases in hotel prices compared to the same month last year were in Navarra (32.4%) and in the Community of Madrid (30.7%). The only decrease was registered in the autonomous city of Melilla, with -2.7%. In the Region of Murcia, the HPI reached 101.38 euros, 15.46% more than in the previous year, a rise below the national average.
According to INE data, the average daily turnover of hotels for each occupied room (ADR) was 121.4 euros in Spain, 17.5% more than in July 2021. In the Region, it reached 80.02 euros, 10.59% more. The average daily income per available room (RevPAR) in the Region of 47.91 euros, while in the country as a whole it reached 89.90 euros.
