The Covid Monitoring Committee, meeting this Saturday in the San Esteban Palace, has decided to focus all the resources of the Region’s hospitals on the care of Covid patients. The Community health system thus enters a new phase of the contingency plan that includes the reorganization of all human resources and the suspension of all activity, including surgery, which is not essential or urgent.
Hospital pressure continues at the limit and this Thursday there were 71 more admissions. Thus, there are already 1,041 hospitalized patients, of which 142 are in the ICU. These are the highest figures in the entire pandemic, which is forcing managers of health areas to make urgent decisions.
In addition, the lack of beds in some hospitals in the Region has forced doctors to monitor Covid-19 patients at home who, under normal circumstances, would be admitted or kept under observation. However, according to health sources, this never occurs with patients whose condition is serious.
Another example of the hospital collapse suffered by the Community is the Reina Sofía hospital, which next Monday will enable one of the Psychiatry floors to receive exclusively Covid patients.
