The first few bars of the British Grand Prix they will be remembered for the bad accident that took place at the start, after which Guanyu Zhou rolled over, crashing into the safety nets at very high speed. The climate of tension generated in the early stages after the incident almost totally supported the decision of the Race Directionwhich has opted for the second start from the grid, therefore from a standstill and on the basis of the positions obtained in qualifying, and not launched behind the Safety Car. A choice that was not shared by the Red Bull team principal, however, Christian Horner, even more so for how the first start had been configured, with Max Verstappen who had managed to place himself in command of the race after passing Carlos Sainz, who started instead from pole position. However, with the decision of the race marshals, the overtaking of the Dutchman had no use, precisely due to the restart from second position on the grid.
Interviewed by gpfans.comHorner expressed all his opposition to this provision, hoping that it can be revised in the future: “It’s a decision we challenged – explained the British manager – also because, from what I understand, not all the cars had passed the second line of the safety car. The only reference they had was the starting line, which is why they went back to that order. This is something we may need to look into“. However, despite the not very reassuring premises and the not entirely positive outcome of the GP – with Verstappen slipping up to 7th place after hitting a debris – Red Bull can still console itself for Sergio Perez’s podium and for the fourth position of Charles Leclerc who, despite the victory of Carlos Sainz’s other Ferrari, allows the Austrian team and the reigning world champion to keep a certain distance from their rivals: “Checo has extended his lead over Charles – added a Sky Sports F1 – while the latter only gained six points over Max. In the Constructors we only lost 10 points, therefore, considering the day we had, it’s not bad“.
