The Austrian team principal returns to the contact between the Mercedes driver and Verstappen at the British GP: “Light penalty for this type of accident”
In the home race, Hamilton won despite the 10 second penalty due to contact with Max Verstappen. The Dutchman went off the track and brutally crashed into the barriers. Nothing serious, fortunately, but driver number 33 went to the hospital for checks. Race management blamed the Englishman and Red Bull team principal Chris Horner said the team is still considering requesting a penalty review, deemed too “light for this type of accident”.
Accident cost dearly
Race contacts can happen and now the challenge between Hamilton and Verstappen is even more heated. The two drivers think about fighting, the teams on the budget. After an initial consultation from Helmut Marko, the damage toll was initially € 750,000, but Horner revealed that the bang actually cost twice as much. We are therefore talking about 1.5 million euros: “An incident of this kind has enormous consequences in the era of the budget cap”, he concluded.
