With the first nine races of the 2022 world championship now on file, the Red Bull comes this weekend at Silverstone with an advantage of 76 points from Ferrari, winner this year with Leclerc ‘only’ in Bahrain and Australia and repeatedly betrayed by human errors or technical failures. Yet, despite this considerable gap – also determined by six consecutive successes for the Anglo-Austrian house – the Red Bull team principal, Christian Hornerit’s anything but quiet ahead of the British GP.
In fact, the English manager fears the potential return of Ferrari itself and of the Mercedesboth considered favorites on the Silverstone track also due to the update package that will be provided by the two teams on the historic circuit: “Looking at pure performance, one would say that, as happened in Barcelona, it will be a race to Ferrari’s advantage – said Horner after the last Canadian GP – I heard that there will also be some updates on the Ferrari, so it will be an interesting grand prix ”.
Moreover, Red Bull comes to Silverstone with the desire to redeem what happened last year, when Max Verstappen was the protagonist of an ugly accident arising after a contact with Lewis Hamilton at the entrance to the Copse: “Silverstone was quite difficult for us last year – Horner remarked – we went there with a good lead from Mercedes, as will happen this year with Ferrari, so it is important for us to maintain this momentum. We have put together a great series of races, and we are all doing a great job. Silverstone is one of the best circuits on the calendar. Also this year there will be a record turnout, and I’m sure there will be great support for the Mercedes drivers, but we will go there loaded and we will try to take revenge on what happened last year“.
Toto Wolff also teased that Mercedes is ready to take advantage of the field factor with some updates that should allow the W13 to experience a weekend as a protagonist like Red Bull and Ferrari. The British Grand Prix therefore promises to be very interesting.
