Five patrolmen, four leaders and three potential candidates. An act for security in the Lanús ended that particular political equation. It was this Thursday, when the deputy head of government Diego Santilli represented the City for the donation of half a dozen security vehicles for the municipality of southern Buenos Aires. They were received by the mayor, Nestor Grindetti, your chief of staff Diego Kravetz and the provincial deputy Adrian Urreli.
Formally, and according to the Mayor’s Office, “five mobiles were handed over to the Citizen Security area through an agreement” with the management of Horacio Rodríguez Larreta. “The same – completed the statement – will be used by the new Immediate Response Patrol, which is working in the district and which began to function since the end of 2020. After the event, they toured the area of the Gastronomic Pole of Lanús Oeste.”
The political reading of the meeting is broader and more interesting. As already advanced Clarion, as part of the presidential project of Larreta 2023, his current vice could make the leap to the Province to fight for the governorship. It will not be simple: there are already at least two other firm members signed up for the race – Mayor Jorge Macri and Deputy Cristian Ritondo – and some ask not to rule out the return of María Eugenia Vidal, although she would prefer other directions.
There is even speculation that the former governor could head the list of Buenos Aires national deputies this year, but then she would bet on a national or even Buenos Aires office. 2021 looms risky: even with the wear and tear caused by the pandemic and the economic crisis, if the Frente de Todos stays together today, it remains the favorite. The pollsters and the opposition leaders themselves say so.

But while that short term fight is being discussed, Santilli takes the opportunity to show himself in the Conurbano And, with a discourse that is also more punitive than guaranteed with criminals -the vice is in charge of the area in the City since 2018-, he differs from Sergio Berni with a less controversial style. The Buenos Aires Minister of Security is another of those who aspires to join the electoral fight: 2021 and / or 2023?
With Grindetti a priori prevented from going for another reelection in Lanús – he is going for his second term – another who takes advantage of each act to appear is Kravetz, his chief of staff and also with a double function, since he is in charge of local security. There’s a pre-agreement for him to try to be Grindetti’s successor in 2023.
The turns of politics: in the first Kirchnerism, Kravetz was “Alberto Fernández’s” man in the City and even led a large bloc of the Front for Victory in the Buenos Aires Legislature. Then he had a fleeting and failed step by Sergio Massa’s Renewing Front and finally joined Cambiemos. His wife is the Buenos Aires Minister of Education, Soledad Acuña.
The third “candidateable” in the photo is Urreli. Current vice of the Buenos Aires lower house, his idea is to return to head the list by the third electoral section. He also responds to Mayor Grindetti.
