The current weather in Germany is annoying. Is raining all the time. But the forecast of the experts gives hope that summer will come back with full force in August.
NRW – The weather in summer 2021 has so far been more than mixed. A few nice days were usually followed by a rainy period in most regions in Germany. What’s next for the weather in Germany? Will it stay with the “dirty summer” or can people look forward to another hot spell? RUHR24* reveals how the weather should be in August.

Weather in Germany: Lots of rain and little sun so far in summer 2021
So far, the summer in Germany has looked like this: After a lot of rain and low temperatures in May, this followed first extremely hot spell in June*. The first summer month of the year was hotter than average. The drop in temperature in July therefore had a particularly high fall height. Accompanied by torrential rains and not to forget the one triggered by it Flood disaster in NRW* and Rhineland-Palatinate.
If you look beyond Germany, the current forest fires in Europe * and the sustained hot period there clearly show that summer 2021 is a summer of extremes. The weather expert Dominik Jung described them this year’s weather situation, among other things, as a roller coaster summer*. If you take that literally, in August it would be time again to bring the people in Germany with temperatures over 30 degrees and lots of sunshine.
Summer 2021: The weather forecast is mixed – but with hope for improvement
Here, too, Jung from the weather service Q.met has an initial forecast: “You have to look for the summer here with a magnifying glass, at least the constant summer.” And initially it tarnishes the hope that it could change in the next few days. According to the meteorologist, it should remain changeable until August 15th. “There is nothing to see of the heat for Germany far and wide,” says Jung.
But a look at the forecast of the German Weather Service (DWD) reveals: After that, it could be good again. In its 10-day forecast, the DWD states that temperatures ranging from “warm to very warm” can be expected from August 14th. Specifically, it is said that summer could return with temperatures around 30 degrees (more News about weather and climate* at RUHR24).
Weather in summer 2021: rain continues to dominate – only a few sun
But the DWD is also certain: Until then, people in Germany will have to grit their teeth again and fight their way through rain, a lot of gray and rather low temperatures around 20 degrees. In the north and south-east alone there is a chance to reach the 30-degree mark from Thursday (August 12).
In the west, i.e. in Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Heavy rain and thunderstorms continue to dominate NRW*. So there is no mention of summer for the time being. The opinions of the weather experts differ as to whether it will really show itself again with peak temperatures afterwards.
Weather forecast for summer 2021: Experts’ opinions differ
Some assume that there will be a short flying visit in the summer and that it will go downhill again in terms of weather after a brief uplift in the middle of the month. RTL meteorologist Carlo Pfaff does not give up hope. He currently assumes that the influence of low pressure over Central Europe will weaken and a wedge of the Azores high will venture towards Germany.
“As a result, the current over Germany is increasingly turning to the southwest and finally brings with it a boost of warm, midsummer Mediterranean air. From mid-August we will see peaks of up to 30 degrees, ”explains Pfaff. He cannot speak of a real heat wave either, but at least the forecast gives hope that some more summer will be served before the first autumn month is just around the corner in September.
Summer 2021: Weather expert gives hope of 30 degrees from mid-August
Should it happen that summer really shows its better side again from mid-August, the so-called dog days would also do their name justice. The weather records showed that the period from July 23rd to August 23rd the chance for higher temperatures is highest. This period is popularly referred to as Dog Days due to the summer constellation of the Big Dog.
But such normal weather cases do not always have to occur. Meteorologist Pfaff knows that in 2021 there was the last more consistent, almost Germany-wide dry phase from June 14th to 19th. After that it was over with a real summer feeling until now. Hopefully, in the last few days of the dog days, the exception will once again confirm the rule and it will be hot. * RUHR24 is part of the editorial network of IPPEN.MEDIA.
