We can welcome another electric car from China to our country. This time a premium SUV that listens to the name Hongqi E-HS9.
That the Chinese are conquering Europe with electric cars is no longer a surprise. We already see BYD, MG and Lynk & Co driving a lot on the roads and we can add another Chinese brand: Hongqi.
To be precise, the Hongqi E-HS9. This premium SUV with six or seven seats is brought to our country by Stern as an importer and exclusive dealer. The E-HS9 is the first model of the brand that will be available in our country. Stern expects to introduce two more models in the Netherlands at the end of 2023 and early 2024. What those are is not yet known.
Premium size SUV
The Hongqi brand is also known as the Chinese Rolls Royce. Definitely not a proletarian. Especially the party bosses in China seem to like to drive around in cars of this brand. Feel Xi JinPing and get into this premium SUV.
Then you feel like a big boy in a big car. With a length of 5.2 meters and a width of 2.01 meters, the car can be called substantial. So there was room for six or seven chairs, you can choose.
Those seats are made of soft nappa leather or Alcantara, have a soft pillow and are electrically adjustable. Of course equipped with heating and cooling and a massage function in the front. Each row of seats has its own panel for climate control and USB ports.
The fully electric Hongqi E-HS9 is available in the Netherlands with two different battery packs. An 84 kWh battery with a range of 396 kilometers and a 99 kWh battery pack with a range of 465 kilometers. In terms of horsepower good for 436 and 551 hp respectively. Powerful drivetrains, but you also need them at a weight of more than 2,500 kilograms.
The Hongqi brand has been around since the 1950s and has also been for sale in Norway for some time. More than 1,000 units have already been sold in Norway, so in that respect the men and women of Stern see it in the Netherlands for Hongqi. An interesting detail is that the starting price in Norway is more than 22 thousand euros lower than in our country (!)
The Hongqi E-HS9 Business with the 84kWh battery pack is for sale with us from 83,590 euros against 61,500 euros in Norway. For the Executive with the larger battery pack you pay at least 94,590 euros. If you are Xi Jinping yourself, then of course you go for the E-HS9 President and you have to pay 103,590 euros. The most expensive version in Norway “does” 78,500 euros.
You can also drive a BMW iX for about the same amount as the cheapest version. It is of course a bit smaller, but also a lot less Chinese.
We checked with Stern about the price difference between the Netherlands and Norway. If we have a response we will post an update here. We suspect that the favorable tax and subsidy climate for electric cars in Norway has something to do with it, but we will come back to it.
