Honored Test Pilot of the USSR Viktor Zabolotsky and Honored Pilot of Russia Sergei Kruglikov named the safest passenger aircraft. About this they told portal URA.RU.
According to Zabolotsky, the Il-96 is a model of reliability due to the duplication of the fly-by-wire mechanical control. “That is, even if the automation fails, manual control can work. Therefore, presidents fly on airplanes with such a system. The President of the Russian Federation flies on the Il-96, ”he stressed. Also, the test pilot could not remember a single disaster involving this liner.
Kruglikov shared his personal experience of piloting the Il-86. “The most reliable is the Il-86 and the Il-96 made on its basis, this is a product of the 80s, which took into account all the shortcomings previously identified in terms of design and materials. I flew the Il-86 for only eight out of 49 years, but I did not have a single refusal on it, ”he noted, adding that he faced some“ adventures ”on Boeing and Airbus planes.
In April, Major General Vladimir Popov revealed the features of the Il-96-300PU presidential airliner. First of all, the military man described the aircraft security system. It follows from the expert’s words that the president’s plane is equipped with radar, radio-technical, optical-electronic and visual control. In addition, the aircraft has four engines, and if half of them fail, the liner will still be able to maneuver, climb and descend. He stressed that the device can travel up to 800 kilometers and then successfully land even on one engine.
In addition to the presidential board, in Voronezh, on the basis of the new wide-body Il-96-400M, the construction of a “Doomsday aircraft” has begun – a board for commanding troops in case of a nuclear war. The project is called “Link-3S”. The filling of the aircraft will make it possible to deliver orders to ground and submarine launchers within a radius of six thousand kilometers.
