Horror in Honduras where an Italian was lynched to death by the population of Santa Ana de Yusguare, in the south of the country. According to the website of the newspaper La Prensa, the Italian citizen, identified as Giorgio Scanu, had been accused of killing an elderly person in the area and was attacked by an “angry mob” of 600 people who broke into his home. The Farnesina “is aware of the news” and “is carrying out the necessary checks, in contact with the Italian embassy in Guatemala, which has the competence”, sources from the foreign ministries told Adnkronos.
The site of the local newspaper also publishes the terrible images of the attack on the man, beaten with stones and poles. According to the police, “an angry mob of 600 armed people broke into private property with the apparent intention of taking the life of a foreign citizen residing in the neighborhood”.
The crowd also set fire to the house and car of the man who, transported to the hospital, died of his injuries. According to another local newspaper, El Heraldo, the lynching took place in front of police officers.
The newspaper also reports that the crowd blamed the Italian for the death of an elderly neighbor, Juan de Dios, with whom he had had a quarrel over a tree cut in his garden.
