The former French president publishes the book ‘Affronter’ in which he affirms that Macron is “a man without any doctrine”
Less than six months before the French presidential elections, former President François Hollande has published a book in which he attacks French politicians, both on the left and on the right. In ‘Affronter’ (‘Confront’), the man who led the country between 2012 and 2017, leaves no puppet with head.
The current tenant of the Elysee, Emmanuel Macron, is, in his opinion, “a man without any doctrine.” He considers that his successor was never a Social Democrat and that social dialogue is not among his priorities. And he compares it to “a traveler without a compass.” “Since 2017, (the French) have observed an impatient, intrepid, unpredictable president, without knowing where he is going or where the country is leading,” writes Hollande of his former Economy Minister.
He also criticizes the candidates on the right and the far-right Marine Le Pen. The best-ranked conservative in the book is Michel Barnier, a former European Commissioner and former head of the European Union’s Brexit negotiations.
For Hollande, who did not run for reelection in 2017, the left is not right either. In the fourth book he has published since leaving power, he states that “all the candidates are Lilliputians.” The socialist regrets the division of the left parties, which prevents them from uniting around a leader and qualifying for the second round of the presidential elections. He offers some advice to the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, the candidate of his party to lead France. She recommends that she be “herself” and that she be “proud of her socialist identity.”
