Hockey The national team of the Swiss boys will not arrive in Finland due to tighter corona restrictions

Switzerland was to take part in the hockey tournament of the European Youth Olympic Festival in Kajaani.

Switzerland the national hockey team under the age of 18 announced on Thursday that they would be absent from the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) hockey tournament in Kajaani.

The reason for the decision is the tightened interest rate restrictions in Switzerland, the country’s Hockey Association said on Thursday afternoon on their website.

“We are very sorry for the decision, but we consider withdrawal from the tournament necessary in these circumstances,” the head of the Swiss national hockey teams Lars Weibel said.

Admission to Switzerland requires a negative corona test result, so young hockey players should also have been tested in Finland before returning home. A positive test is followed by quarantine in the country of origin.

“We cannot take responsibility for the fact that in the worst case, players of this age will have to be quarantined for ten days alone in Finland,” Weibel said.

Switzerland the health authorities rejected the request for a separate order, leaving Switzerland out of the tournament. Since there are only five countries left, the tournament will also change game style. Rankings are decided based on a simple series without medal games.

Due to the international competition calendar for the sport, the hockey for boys under the age of 18 will take off for the European Youth Olympic Festival, which will be held for other sports in March 2022. There will be three venues.

Boys ‘and girls’ hockey is played in Kajaani, hill jumping and combined competitions are held in Lahti, and other sports, such as alpine skiing, biathlon, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, short-track long-distance skating and figure skating, are held in Vuokatti, Sotkamo.
