Frölunda Indians will play with this season’s familiar name and logo.
Swedish in the main hockey series, SHL’s reigning champion Frölunda removes the Indian from his logo and name.
However, the change will only take place for the period 2020-21, which means that this season the team will still be known as Frölunda Indians. Follow tells you about it on its website.
The club has used the name Indians since 1995.
“Changing the logo is not an easy process and the club does not take it lightly. It helps in the transformation work that the values and soul of the club are not tied to the symbol. Frölunda HC is so much more, and it will be used in the process, ”the release states.
The familiar logo remains on the shirt front even this season, although the image has been criticized for being disrespectful to the indigenous peoples of North America.
Previously the American Football NFL Washington Redskins took the word Redskins out of its name. The hockey NHL team Chicago Blackhawks, meanwhile, have banned dressing as Indians in their matches.
The Swedish main series SHL starts on 19 September. Frölunda will face HV71 in his first match.
