The races in Edmonton and Red Deer were suspended on December 29 after coronavirus infections were detected in U.S., Czech and Russian teams.

Chairman of the IIHF Luc Tardif said the August tournament will start from scratch, meaning the December results will not be valid in the summer. Finland managed to grab three victories in Edmonton before the sudden end of the Games, the most recent being the Czech Republic’s handover victory.

The August tournament will be played by the same age groups as in December, meaning players born in 2002 and younger.

The IIHF also said the World Championships for girls under the age of 18 will be played in the United States in June. The Games were originally to be held in January in Sweden.
