“The Rings of Power”, the new Amazon Prime Video series, has received racist criticism both before and after its premiere. Thus, the actors Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd – the hobbits of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy – gathered in a photograph to show their support for the cast members with a message in the style of the author JRR Tolkien .
Through social networks, the ‘inhabitants of the Shire’ shared a photo in which they appear wearing a white t-shirt with a statement in the elvish language: “Everyone is welcome here”.
Below the phrase, several ears of different colors are also drawn, representing the diversity of the characters of Middle-earth.
This demonstration was also joined by Sean Astin, an actor who plays Sam -Frodo’s good friend throughout the films-, who published an individual photograph in which he appears wearing a cap with the same message.
The actors’ response
Benjamin Walker (Elven King Gil-Galad) and Owain Arthur (Dwarf Durin IV) responded positively to Elijah Wood’s Twitter post.
However, the one who drew the most attention was the actor Ismael Cruz Córdova, who recently denounced the racist harassment he had received after playing the elf Arondir.
“We belong to Middle Earth”the criticized star wrote on his official account, in which he retweeted the photo of Wood and the other two original cast members.
“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” premieres a new episode every Friday on Amazon Prime Video.
