He Hitman 3’s Ray Tracing Coming to Xbox Series X and S and PC, apparently exclusively, at least while the PS5 version of Ray Tracing is being prepared, if there ever is one. Hitman 3 does not currently include Ray Tracing support on any platform, but IO Interactive confirmed prior to launch that it was working on bringing it to PC in a future update. But as reported through official sources, it will also reach Microsoft consoles.
The reason why Ray Tracing support is coming on consoles only to next-gen Xbox consoles is unclear, but it could be due to the capabilities of Microsoft’s consoles. In fact, something like this is what the IOI CTO seems to imply. In fact, recently Digital Foundry made a video comparing Hitman 3’s performance on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S, where the superior capabilities of Microsoft’s console became clear.

In a new Xbox Wire post On optimizing Hitman 3 for Xbox Series X and S, IOI CTO Maurizio de Pascale said that support for Ray Tracing from Hitman 3 would not only reach PC, as initially estimated, it was also on the roadmap for Microsoft consoles. Pascale also explained that the new Xbox Series X hardware allowed for things not possible on other consoles, such as Hitman 3 updating its NPCs more frequently and in greater numbers.

This means that on the Xbox Series X version of Hitman 3 more people will scream and start running when you drop a lamp on your target. More detailed cloth and destruction effects can also be simulated than on other consoles. Perhaps that is why Ray Tracing from Hitman 3 on consoles is limited to Microsoft consoles, related to the RDNA 2.0 which is exclusive to Xbox Series X | S.
It’s cool that the X Series GPU | S have hardware support for Ray Tracing. We’ve already started working on RT technology for the renderer on our Glacier engine, and once it’s ready for prime time, we’ll definitely toast to the X | S Series hardware.
