NPipes run along the huge screen on the bare concrete walls, one corner is illuminated in purple, neon tubes frame a small stage, in the middle of the hall there are two armchairs on a Persian carpet. But in the hall there is not about the same dancing, it’s about history. Many young people think of the dates that they had to learn in history class. Source analyzes, maps and frontal teaching, maybe a documentation. Often turned backwards, just history. But the event here in the Reinbeckhallen in Berlin wants to show that there is another way.
“History is not just about dates,” says Vassili Golod when he stands in front of the big screen on Thursday and greets the online viewers. βIt’s more about understanding why certain things happened.β Golod moderates, together with Sumi Somaskanda, that History festival HistoCON the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb). The topic: The world after 1945 – a new beginning? The language: English. The idea: an international event with moderators, experts, live music, artists and the opportunity for spectators to take part. Because of the pandemic, the three planned shows on different topics will take place online on Thursday and Friday. They can be followed via live stream and later checked on youtube will.
