CdS, new rules are coming
There is talk more and more frequently in recent days of revision of the Highway Code. But how will this happen? In what times? And, above all, what rules will it change? Questions that are still difficult to answer today, even if some clues are offered to us by politics. And in particular by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, who was inspired by the latest data released a few days ago by Asaps relating to the almost 200 road fatalities in Italy on weekends from the beginning of the year to today to reiterate the will of the government.
Salvini’s announcement
“An unacceptable massacre that counts too many victims among young people, to which two girls aged only 17 and 19 were added this weekend, who disappeared in a dramatic crash in the Treviso area – wrote the leader of the League on his official Facebook profile – Among the priorities of the new Highway Code: more prevention, road safety education and stricter rules, such as for those who drive using the telephone or kill under the influence of alcohol or drugs”. The minister also promised rules, controls and more security for those who use i electric scootersincreasingly at the center of the debate for the way in which they are conducted: just a few days ago we recall the case of the two scooter riders caught driving on the motorway during a blizzard near Turin, which Salvini himself defined “a danger to them and to other drivers”.
More protection for pedestrians and cyclists
Only exactly one month ago it was the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure himself who opened an imminent revision of the Highway Code, explaining how one of the priorities will be to restore respect to the roads and sidewalks not only by establishing more rules for those who use scooters, but also ensuring greater protection for pedestrians and cyclistswho are unfortunately among the main road fatalities. “Among the regulations in the pipeline there is also the introduction of a safety distance of one and a half meters to overtake a cyclist – wrote Salvini – To fight the massacres on the roads, everyone must do their part, with common sense and a sense of responsibility”.
