Heavy rains and storms – storms have Italy under control. Venice is preparing for a flood. Schools and cemeteries are closed as a precaution in the south of Italy.
Naples / Venice – There is another weather alarm in Italy. In the northern Italian lagoon city of Venice, the authorities expected another flood on Wednesday evening. The city of Venice expects an increase of up to 1.40 meters around 10 p.m. on Wednesday (November 3rd).
Highest alert: floods threaten Venice
At 6 p.m. the city wants to activate the “Moses” protection system – according to the tide forecast, which is updated every hour. The highest level of alert applies in the lagoon city. On Sunday evening, the flood protection “Moses” was extended after a flood warning of 1.25 meters. The flood protection gates have been erected at three entrances to the port of the lagoon city in the sea. During one of the worst floods in over 50 years, the storm surge barrier was inoperative.
Venice was flooded by a catastrophic tidal wave on the night of November 13, 2019. The water, driven by the so-called Scirocco wind, rose to 1.87 meters at that time.

Storms in Italy – schools and cemeteries closed as a precaution
The mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, decided to close a large part of the cemeteries and parks on Wednesday because of the danger of falling branches from trees, as the order of the Naples municipality on Tuesday revealed.
Schools are closed on Wednesday in many municipalities in the province of Naples. There are no classes on the popular holiday island of Ischia on the Gulf of Naples, among other places. The civil protection authority had issued the orange warning level for the southern Italian region of Campania. The meteorologists expected heavy rain showers and storms.
