The good dynamics of Jimbee dust off the matches of 15 years ago against ElPozo, where the demand and pressure were maximum
Ruined projects, bottle launches, balls to the stands, anthological finals and deafening atmospheres have starred in the regional futsal derby for 23 years. The game returns today (Palacio de Deportes de Cartagena, 9:00 p.m.) under that aroma of rivalry, pique and maximum demand that Polaris World Cartagena and ElPozo Murcia always reflected between 2003 and 2007. The club has already sold 1,600 tickets for the duel of tonight and the allowed capacity is 2,100 spectators.
The two teams have matched forces in recent years. Specifically, since the Jimbo Fresh company came to the rescue of Cartagena futsal to elbow it again in the top positions. Thus, since 2018 the derby has gradually recovered that essence of the past, reaping two victories and a draw in the last six regional clashes. The forces seem more equal and the incentive is greater when on the Jimbee side is Eduardo Sao Thiago, Duda.

The final of the League, in 2006, is the closest to a title that futsal has been in Cartagena.
The Brazilian coach is a legend in the butcher team, which he defended as a player and trained for 17 years (between 2001 and 2018). At that time, ElPozo de Duda raised no less than 15 titles. And it always ruined the golden stage of Cartagena futsal, under the nickname of the pachequera construction company Polaris World Cartagena.
Duda, now Jimbee coach, eliminated the giant Polaris in two semi-finals and one final for the league title
Javi Matía, Indio and Manoel Tobias, in the Santiago Cup, in 2004.
During much of the 21st century, the patchwork construction company Polaris World and the ElPozo food group transferred that business prestige to the ‘Bombonera’ park and to that of the Murcia Sports Palace. They always crashed, demanded the maximum and even went to court, always in search of sporting success.
Those visits to the Murcia Social Court occurred in 2005. Polaris World had a turnover of 600 million euros a year and signed the best players in the world to dethrone its eternal rival in one of the biggest investments in this sport. Thus, that summer Polaris paid the clause of 1.1 million euros to sign center Lenísio and winger Balo, stars of ElPozo. All that friction always led to high voltage matches for the max.

Thus, from 2003 to 2007, both of them starred in such fervent moments that they made half the world aware of a sport at that time very on the rise, in the Region and in the rest of Spain. Spanish Cups, quarter-finals, semi-finals and life-and-death matches delighted the fans on the floor.

Quite remembered is the crossing of the quarterfinals, in the Spanish Cup played in Santiago de Compostela in 2004. Golden night for Polaris, who retaliated for their defeat in the league by eliminating ElPozo in a remembered 6-7. David Marín signaled the Kike Boned team, Fran Serrejón, Paulo Roberto and company on the horn.
The latter starred in a heated moment by throwing water at fans of the ‘Bombonera’, in the semifinals of the ‘playoff’ for the title that flew to the butcher side. A goal from Marcelo from his field gave the victory to Polaris (3-2) and forced the fifth and final match, a year later, in the final for the title in 2006. That sudden death was again taken by ElPozo, with 7,500 people at the Murcia Sports Palace (4-2). Duda’s celebrated raised fist that day was one of the great feats of the Brazilian coach. That year, Polaris had taken Lenisio and Balo from him.
In the most recent stage, ElPozo has so far been unable to win at the new Palacio de Deportes in Murcia. The Plasticó came back from 0-3 and touched the epic in 2017 (3-3). And Brocanelo’s Jimbee endorsed him a tough 8-3 in 2019 and a 3-1 in the Copa del Rey a few months later. Last season, in a derby with a lot of noise and little nuts, it all ended in a draw (1-1) on Avenida del Cantón.
