Ilaix Moriba’s difficult season at RB Leipzig finally had good news. The midfielder was called up by Guinea Conakry for the Africa Cup, the first of the international tournaments to be played with the Guinean team and to be held in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6.
The former Barça player decided to accept the invitation of the Federation of Guinea to play with them instead of with Spain, the country in which he trained and with which he was international in lower categories. Ilaix came to play the U-17 World Cup with La Roja, but had no doubts in opting for Guinea Conakry as soon as there was interest.
The moment that Ilaix is going through in the Bundesliga is not easy. Since his turbulent departure from Barça he has lived through more suffering than joy. It barely counted for Jesse Marsch when he was removed from RB Leipzig’s managerial position. With the new coach the situation has not changed. Tedesco has not given him minutes either and it could be seen in the duel against Arminia Bielefeld in which he did not even take the field despite the fact that his team was losing 0-2 and there were changes available.
Despite this, Guinea has decided to summon it (it has already done so before but was dropped by COVID) and give it prominence in a midfield where the team’s best footballers like Naby Keita and Amadou Diawara come together. Along with them, from now on, will also be Ilaix Moriba.
Guinea 🇬🇳 national team trainer Kaba Diawara has announced his squad for the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations next month.
