Dalil Essakali, French lawyer of the Algerian writer exiled in France Hichem Aboud, suspects that he was kidnapped in Barcelona last Thursdaywhen it landed at the Prat airport where its runway was lost.
In statements to EFE, the lawyer assured that “there are not many elements” about his disappearance but He said he had “founded suspicions” to determine that he was “kidnapped.”
“This is not the first time he has been the target of a kidnapping attempt.“said Essakali, who recalled that the French justice system has an open investigation into an attempted kidnapping against the writer in 2021.
Aboud landed last Thursday afternoon in Barcelona coming from Brussels and since 3:00 p.m. there is no news about his whereaboutswithout answering any of the phones he usually uses, the lawyer said.
Essakali did not want to venture on who may be behind that kidnapping, but he recalled his client’s actions against “the military junta” that rules in Algiers.
“For now the matter is being subject of investigation andTherefore, under secrecy, I cannot give more details,” said the lawyer, who refused to clarify whether they have filed a complaint with the Spanish authorities about the case.
In statements to the Moroccan network MediTV, Essakali was more direct and pointed directly to Algiers as the main suspect of the kidnapping of the writer and journalist.
The Amazigh World Assembly (AMA), which represents the Berber people, was the first to sound the alarm by expressing its concern over the disappearance of Aboud, 69 years old.
Author of books very critical of the Algerian authorities, such as The mafia des généraux (The generals mafia), where he denounces the drifts in his countrys, Aboud is a recognized figure in the fight for freedoms.
The AMA considers that “his constant commitment against corruption and oppression and his fierce fight for the democratization of his country has exposed him to numerous threats and assassination attempts from the Algerian security services”.
