On this plateau of Puy-de-Dôme, this beech has been there for at least four hundred years. Here, the wind, permanent, gives it its original form: it has curled up on itself. This phenomenon is in the running to be elected tree of the year. Further south, in Corsica, there is a competitor with a singular history: this holm oak has a large cavity used in the last century by a woman who had her sows put down there. The heritage history is an asset for the competition: near Reims, in Champagne-Ardenne, a black poplar is at the head of the votes. It was used as a watchtower during the First World War. V
14 trees in the running
The Center-Val-de-Loire region is represented by a Ginkgo biloba, originating in China. Established in the city, the tree fascinates, especially in the fall when the leaves turn golden yellow. 14 trees are in the running for the 2020 tree award, votes on the tree of the year site are open until January 5.
