D.he weekend Philipp spent with his girlfriend’s family. He returned to his student flat in Cologne relaxed and in a good mood on Sunday evening. He had a cup of tea with his friends before going to bed. “Everything was completely normal,” says his father Mario L. The next morning his roommates were amazed that the alarm clock in Philip’s room didn’t stop ringing and that he didn’t get up. When they finally looked, Philipp was lying motionless in bed. Death had surprised him in his sleep. Sudden cardiac death was later found in Cologne forensic medicine.
Nothing has been the same for Mario L. since then. Philipp was his only child, father and son were very close. At his own request, Philipp grew up with him and his second wife in the Palatinate Forest. “We were a happy family.” Philipp passed his Abitur at the local high school as the best in his year. There was an award from the Ministry of Education because he was committed to the school website. A video with him is still available there. It shows a confident, good-looking teenager who can hardly wait for the future. “Philipp knew what he wanted,” says his father. Just two days after graduating from high school, he began studying at the Federal Ministry of the Interior. There he met his girlfriend. “They made plans for a joint apartment,” says Mario L.
