In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter The 76-year-old actor says that during his big cleanup, which he says kept him busy for a year and a half, he went through 26 boxes in which he kept props from his film and television projects. A number of items are part of the auction. Winkler will donate a portion of the proceeds to This Is About Humanity, a foundation his daughter Zoe started to help immigrant families separated at the US-Mexico border.
The Fonzie jacket is part of an outfit that also consists of jeans, T-shirt and boots that the actor wore on the set of the hit series. The ensemble must yield between 50,000 and 70,000 dollars (43,000 – 60,000 euros).
Winkler doesn’t say goodbye to the iconic looks of The Fonz completely: he confesses that he has another leather jacket from his alter ego, which he will keep. According to the actor, six copies of the jacket were made at the time. So he himself took two from the set, and series creator Garry Marshall is said to have done the same. A fifth jacket is said to have been stolen during the filming, and the last one has been hanging in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC since 1980
