Mexico City.- In an announcement that surely drove fans of the successful anime crazy, Henry Cavill was the actor selected to star in the next live-action adaptation of Voltron, for the Amazon MGM studio.
According to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, the actor, whose role was not revealed, joins rookie actor Daniel Quinn-Toye, who joined the project a few weeks ago.
Rawson Marshall Thurber, who directed the action film Red Notice for Netflix, will take the reins of the live-action Voltron film, in addition to sharing screenwriting credit with Ellen Shanman. An informant close to the production assured that the film will be heavily based on the popular 80s anime series, although more details about the plot are kept secret for the moment.
Voltron: Defender of the Universe, which started one of the most profitable and successful Japanese anime franchises in history, initially aired in 1984.
Its story features a group of space explorers who pilot giant robots that can combine into a mega robot known as Voltron.
