Helsinki hall|The federal government decided on the matter.
Finland The federal board of the Jääkieksoliitto decided unanimously on Monday that it will not pay Helsinki Halli Oy’s overdue electricity bill. The union announced the decision on their website.
The Russian-owned hall company is having payment problems. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave the Ice Hockey Association an exception to pay the electricity company Helen’s bill, but the association does not use the exception.
“We decided not to pay the bill, because according to our analysis, it would have been only a short-term solution”, the president of the Jääkieksliiotto Heikki Hietanen said in the release.
“Hopefully a longer-term solution can be found, but the Ice Hockey Association cannot offer such a solution.”
The former Buying back the Hartwall arena from the Russians has long been talked about since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, and Russia was sanctioned with various economic sanctions.
The hall’s electricity was cut off on September 2, after which the hall company has maintained critical functions with the help of backup power.
The premises owned by the ice hockey association have been out of use since the power went out. Temporary workspaces have been arranged for the staff.
