Helmond Sport refuses to play against FC Emmen tomorrow. The Brabant club had made a request to postpone the competition match, partly due to corona cases, but the KNVB rejected that. The Helmonders can now prepare for a course to the disciplinary committee. It reports that Eindhovens Dagblad.
Helmond Sport can barely raise a team due to injuries and corona cases. Initially, ten fit field players plus two keepers were assumed, later that was adjusted to ten players, including keepers.
However, the KNVB is relentless and rejected Helmond Sport’s request. According to the rules of the football association, clubs must have twelve field players plus one goalkeeper, but then corona must be the cause of the laundry list of absentees. And of the thirteen players that Helmond Sport misses, about half is injured and part fell by corona. According to the KNVB, however, there was no ‘medically uncontrolled outbreak’, as was the case recently with Excelsior and Jong AZ, for example.
